Cara Lowen, JD Head of Legal & Vice President of Intellectual Property

Cara brings to Repertoire 30 years of experience in all aspects of corporate Intellectual Property practice in the biotech industry. Prior to Repertoire, Cara was VP and Chief IP Counsel at Codiak BioSciences, where Cara significantly grew the patent portfolio, completed numerous transactions and was part of the team that managed Codiak’s successful IPO in 2020. Before that, Cara was VP and Chief IP Counsel at Bioverativ, a publicly traded company which spun off from Biogen, with 2 commercial products sold worldwide and a robust R&D pipeline. Cara was instrumental in establishing and executing on the patent strategy that helped grow the hemophilia franchise at Biogen and led all IP related matters as part of the team which successfully spun off the hemophilia business. At Bioverativ, Cara was involved in a number of important transactions including the acquisition of True North and then the sale of Bioverativ to Sanofi in early 2018.

Prior to BIVV, Cara was Senior Director, Head of IP for Rare Diseases and Gene Therapy at Biogen, where Cara worked for 12 years. At Biogen, Cara established and executed IP strategies for numerous programs (both biologics and small molecules) in all stages of development in hemophilia, neurology, immunology, and gene therapy and was heavily involved in transactions to support those therapeutic areas.

Prior to Biogen, Cara had 9 years of law firm experience in Boston. Cara has a JD from Boston University, an MS in Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut and an AB in Biology from Barnard College, Columbia University. Cara is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
